The city walls are dated back to the Bronze Age. The first defensive wall of the Ion settlement is seen between 850-800 BC. This structure consists of a wall built with mudbrick blocks in front of the slope on the wall of the mound, and was formed by filling this wall with a filling consisting of thousands of andesite stones. There is a rectangular-planned defense tower built of white tuff stone, located next to the eastern gate of the city. The early defense wall of the city was used in 2 phases until the second half of the 7th century BC, and then it was destroyed by the Lydian King Gyges. In the second half of the 7th century BC, the thickness of the third defensive wall, which was reconstructed with a polygonal mesh facade made of andesite stones, reaches 17 meters in places. It is known that the city wall, which has large rectangular towers at some points, has a large gate to the southeast of the Temple of Athena.
