The first inhabitants of İzmir lived in oval or rectangular-shaped huts with mudbrick walls, mud plaster, wattlework, and reed roofs. In the later periods of the Neolithic Age, the population increased, and during this time, houses with stone foundations and sunken floors were constructed. Inside the houses, there were sections for grinding grains and ovens used for cooking food.
