Kemeraltı Mosque

Münir Aktepe, a researcher who has conducted significant studies on the historical and cultural heritage of İzmir, identifies Yusuf Çavuşzade Ahmet Ağa as the patron of Kemeraltı Mosque based on a waqfiyya dated November 3, 1671. Aktepe notes that the mosque must have been constructed before the date recorded in the waqfiyya and suggests that it likely dates back to the second half of the 1660s.

For a long period, the mosque was known by the name of its patron. However, at an uncertain point in history, it began to be referred to by the name of its surrounding area, Kemeraltı. The mosque complex includes a library, a madrasah, and a shadirvan. Additionally, there is a sebil (public water fountain) adjacent to the mosque, which opens onto the street. This sebil remained in active use until recent years.
