Latrina

The latrina is a public toilet from the Roman period. It is a toilet complex used by city residents to meet their needs, typically found in communal settings.

The latrina in Ephesus usually has a capacity for about 20 people to use at the same time. It consists of a central hall and various toilet cubicles located around it. The toilet cubicles are separated by walls and equipped with stone seats. The toilets are generally arranged side by side and connected through a stone sewage system.

The latrina was considered an important social space in Roman society. People would gather here, engage in conversations, and attend to their needs. Since the toilets were often used communally, the latrina complexes served as a space that brought together individuals from different sections of the community. (Anonymous)
